Start with How You Work
Think about what you'd wear to meet a client you really wanted to impress. If you're a coach who works in jeans and a soft jumper, that's what your clients expect to see. If you're a solicitor, a well-cut jacket makes sense. Your photographs should match the experience people get when they work with you.
Choose Colours that Suit You and Your Brand
Solid colours photograph beautifully and won't date your images. If your brand has colours, bring one or two pieces that sit alongside them, rather than matching exactly. Be careful with very busy patterns, small checks and fine stripes, as they can distract from your face.
Bring Options
I always suggest bringing two or three outfits, plus a layer such as a jacket, blazer or cardigan. A simple change of layer gives you a different look without a full outfit change, and it means you'll have more variety to use across your website and social media.
Think About Fit and Comfort
If something pulls, gapes or needs constant adjusting, leave it at home. You'll be sitting, standing and moving around, and you want to forget about your clothes so you can relax. Comfortable shoes matter too, especially if we're working outdoors.
Don't Forget the Details
• Press or steam your clothes the night before
• Bring any accessories you wear every day, such as glasses, a watch or favourite jewellery
• Bring anything that represents your business, such as a laptop, notebook, products or packaging
