This image taken of me by Alison is proudly hanging in my home. It shows me in my true light, my silver hair, the lines around my eyes but more importantly it shows the true me. I have always detested having my photograph taken, shaped by my history: I never saw myself as beautiful. This image changed how I see myself and it has changed how I show up in life. When I look at the photo I see a woman who has lived a good life. Never underestimate the power of an image.

As professional speakers and trainers, we’re no strangers to being captured on camera, and it becomes easy to spot when someone knows what they’re doing. Alison has recently supported us with both “in-situ” speaking engagement photos, as well as a full session in her purpose-built studio to update our head-shots and team photos.  As well as being a pleasure to work with, we were both inspired by how much thought and creativity Alison injects into the process.

Alison was so incredible to work with, right from the start with the brilliant mood board she created, she perfectly understood the age of glamour that encapsulates the Eliza Jane Howell collection at Inspired Bridal and the style of the 1920’s which is personally a favourite era.  With her makeup and styling I was delighted with the look achieved. Actually ‘modelling’ can be quite daunting, but she expertly put me at ease and her dynamic approach was in turn so inspiring.

I loved having Alison photograph me at home. Honestly, I forgot she was taking photos at all. We just chatted, swapped stories about our lives, and she quietly caught the moments in between. I’d been nervous about inviting someone into my space — I think that’s the bit that holds most of us back — but it turned out to be the best part. There was no posing, no performing, no tidying things to within an inch of their life. Just me, in my own world, exactly as it is. Just comfortable. I now have wonderful photos, a moment in time, captured honestly. And I’ll treasure them for that.
